Starring in the skyline’s night-time background is a soaring bud-shaped structure, with it’s arrow like aerial pointing up. Taller than even the Eiffel Tower, and built in the commercial capital city of Colombo, the Lotus Tower measures ~350 meters to the top.
While on a good night the tower’s bud-like shape could appear like a jewel against the night-time skyline, it’s stalk-like façade would appear likely to be largely unimpressive. However, the Lotus Tower today is the tallest skyscraper on the 65,000+ sq. km. island of Sri Lanka, and said to be the tallest self-supported structure in all of South Asia.
The skyscraper’s variety of attractions include a revolving restaurant that is said to complete it’s rotation every 90 minutes, a breathtakingly beautiful sight from the observation deck that sits about 250m high from the ground, and a facility for bungee jumping (coming soon), and more.
(While Base Jumping and Abseiling have been performed at the tower, please contact management at the Colombo Lotus Tower for specific details and relevant permissions.)
The Lotus Tower is located in one of the island’s primary business hubs, Colombo; And is a short drive to the new and upcoming Port City, a re-imagined business and marina district built on the shores of the island.
So what does a view from the Lotus Tower look like? Here are some shots to feast your eyes on… (Photo credits: Nazly Ahmed, Colombo).
